Five reasons why working with a life coach works
Coaching is a creative and collaborative process helping you to unlock potential, gain self-awareness, and empower you to create positive change in your life. If you’re new to coaching then you might be wondering what does a coach actually do? And more importantly; why does it work so well? Here I’ll be introducing you to five reasons why working with a coach (actually) works.
1: You are in a space of no judgement
This is one of the reasons magic happens during coaching. Very seldom do we have the opportunity to be in a truly impartial place. It’s really liberating to detach yourself from internal and external judgement. If we aren’t busy worrying about being judged by others, then we’re likely to be busy judging ourselves, or vice versa.
Judgement feels heavy, it’s something we carry around unnecessarily and taking the weight off for even just an hour can be transformative in itself. Creating this space for yourself helps you to connect with yourself – without judgement and you start to see things very differently.
2: You get creative and see new and fresh perspectives
Being able to challenge your current ways of thinking, your assumptions, your beliefs and your limitations leads to a whole new level of self reflection and personal empathy. It allows you to tap into a growth mindset where you can explore new perspectives, get creative seeing different angles and encourages you to shift into a new paradigm of feeling.
When the feeling shifts, that’s where the power is. It’s those ‘ah-ha’ moments of realisation that things might not actually be as you thought. Sometimes this can be a huge jolt to the system, but it can also be small, tiny little changes that soon add up to one hell of a change in perspective!
3: You know yourself the best
A lot of the time we are searching for the answers outside of ourselves and trusting others to impart their knowledge which will be what you need to solve your problems. Of course, there’s merit and value in this when it comes to specific skillsets and expertise, but when we’re talking about personal coaching… surprise surprise, you know yourself the best. You’ve lived with yourself for a while now!
Coaching works because it is you that drives the conversation. Rather than searching outside, you get to tune in to your own inner wisdom which is far more valuable to you. Once you learn how to tune in and truly start listening, you’ll find that answers magically appear. It was inside you all along.
4: You are investing in yourself
As women we invest in ourselves in a material way all the time, without question. Hair appointments, facials, nails, clothes, beauty treatments, lashes, brows, waxing, massages, coffees, cocktails and meals out. Money is exchanged for a service that helps you feel better, and that’s why it’s made a priority, it’s part of your monthly budget.
Having a coach is truly investing in yourself, but on a whole different level. It’s a deeper level that can impact how you live and enjoy your life – prioritising what’s truly important to you, connecting with your values and topping up your battery which is priceless!
Coaching also has a longer term impact, and not just short term solutions. It equips you with skills and strategies for long-term success, the lessons learned often have a lasting positive impact on various aspects of life.
5: You get really clear on where you are, where you want to be and how to get there
In coaching you get to stop, press pause, and take a good look at where you actually are. Coaching serves as a catalyst for gaining clarity in various aspects of life. It helps you define your goals, understand your values, and develop a clear path toward achieving your aspirations.
Through the process, you gain the clarity needed to navigate challenges and move closer to your desired outcomes. When have you actually stopped, truly paused and taken a good look around you and what’s happening for you? In our busy lives, taking the time to do this feels virtually impossible, but without doing it, nothing changes and the perpetual cycle continues.
Without differentiating between where you are and where you want to be means you will be taking action from where you are, and not towards where you want to go. Coaching is a forward orientated conversation resulting in powerful change.
